Northern Ireland’s healthcare system has taken a significant leap forward with the introduction of My Care, a patient portal designed to empower patients and service users with greater control over their healthcare. Available as both a website and a downloadable app, My Care provides secure and personalised online access to specific parts of medical records. Already, over 250,000 people in Northern Ireland are active My Care users.
What is My Care?
The My Care patient portal allows patients to view information about their digital medical record, such as their medications, appointments and some test results, all from the comfort of their own home. It is free and it is optional to use. My Care is accessible to all Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust service users across Northern Ireland.
My Care is only available within secondary care (your specialist in the hospital or in the community setting). This means primary care (GP records) are not available. Social Care records are not available on My Care yet but will be accessible in the future.
How to Log In
To access My Care, service users need to have an active nidirect account. The My Care app can be downloaded from the App Store (Apple/iOS devices) and Google Play (Android devices), when searching for the app you must type in ‘MyChart’. Once installed, users can select My Care from the drop-down menu and sign in using their nidirect account information.

Service users have already shared positive testimonials about the impact My Care has had on their lives. Julie Power, a rare disease patient, described My Care as “the best way forward” for managing her medical data. She highlighted how the app allows her to communicate seamlessly with multiple consultants, access test results quickly, and stay informed about her care. Julie added, “I feel much more empowered with My Care and much more in control. This is the future.”
